Personal statement: Yagang received his B.S. from Lanzhou University in 2000 and his M.S. from Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry/Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003 with Professor Eli, Wumanjiang working on Synthesis, Analysis and Mechanism for Bio-activity of Conjugated Linoleic Acid and Ester. He worked for two years as a project manager at XJIPC for developing several oil and fats based fine chemicals and was promoted to Associate Professor in April 2005.
He moved to the United States in 2005 started his Ph.D study with Professor Ken D. Shimizu working on molecular recognition and molecular imprinted polymers. Then He joined Professor Zimmerman¡¯s group at UIUC as a Postdoc in 2010. In Zimmerman group, Yagang is fascinated in designing novel materials based on supramolecular interactions and molecular recognition. He joined Professor Kenneth S. Suslick group in 2012 working on explosives detection using colorimetric sensor arrays.
Since 2013, Dr. Zhang took a position at Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, the Chinese Academy of Science as Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Since 2014, he is One Thousand Talents-Professor and Tianshan Scholar Distinguished Professor. Professor Zhang's research focus on design and development of advanced functional materials, chemical sensors, fibre-reinforced polymer composites, green chemistry and clean process based on molecular recognition and molecular imprinting.
Professor Zhang also interested in scientific editorial and advisory. I have been reviewer for J. Am. Chem. Soc., Chemical Communication, Green Chemistry, Macromolecules, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, ACS Micro Letters, Organic and Bimolecular Chemistry, The Journal of Organic Chemistry, RCS Advances, Soft Matter, Journal of Inclusion Phenomena and Macrocyclic Chemistry, Journal of Molecular Recognition, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research. 156 journal articles have been reviewed for above journals.
